The Creative Process

Creativity takes time, takes time, takes time.

Do you feel like your work is not good enough? Rather, do you feel like you are not good enough? It is not an uncommon thing to feel because a lot of us do feel that way, but the real question is this: do you give up when you feel as if you are not good enough?

What is this “creative process”? This is a process that artists like me go through. You can be any kind of artist or any kind of person and you will most likely still go through this process. You can be a painter, a fashion designer, a writer, an actor, a photographer or even a singer and you are still a part of this because the creative process is not merely limited to literal “art” — ists. This is a process that takes years to finish, and even then, one can say that this is an ongoing process. It would not just end, it would go on and on and on until you can’t even remember that you’re going through a process.

Some of my works

It’s normal to feel as if your work is not good enough and this leads to feeling that you are not good enough because we don’t necessarily consider it as talent, well, not immediately. We recognize that we can do something that others are not able to, but we don’t consider it good enough. Naturally, we compare ourselves to others and we degrade ourselves. If you sing, you compare yourself to famous singers like Beyoncé, if you paint, you compare yourself to painters like Picasso and such, if you write, you compare yourself to famous writers like Shakespeare but did you ever stop to think that maybe you shouldn’t be comparing yourself to these people? These people are veterans, they are professionals, and the matter of the fact is that you are most likely new at this. You do not become the best when you don’t do anything. You do not just magically become good at this talent. “Practice makes perfect.” Truly, it does because these people did not get to where they are now without practicing and working hard for what they have achieved. You need to practice and practice, to try and try until you improve, not until you feel like you are good enough because that time will not come because their will always be people degrading you. Rather, you need to keep trying until the weight decreases. Keep doing creative work; keep working until you feel content because this is the key.

In the first few years, you won’t feel content; you will feel like something is missing. You will feel like it’s missing that “bang” and that’s okay. Don’t be too hard on yourself because remember, this is a process and it won’t be finished anytime soon. Don’t give up because there’s obviously something there, you just have to develop it. Don’t give up, don’t give up, don’t give up because these famous people, your idols did not get to where they are now by giving up. Keep doing creative work and give yourself a deadline (a schedule) for each work. This is a process. It will take a long time… don’t give up, don’t give up, don’t give up.
