Use The “1/2 Method” To 5x Your Progress
Try this for 30 days. It will sky rocket your progress on stuff that matters.
This is a simple one. For every task or every “thing” you THINK you have to (or should) do, before adding it to your calendar or committing to it, give it a rating from 1 to 5:
- 1: Will move you forward SIGNIFICANTLY to an important goal
- 2: Will move you forward IN SOME WAY to an important goal
- 3/4/5: Will not move you towards an important goal in any way, but you probably should do it otherwise you’ll feel bad or let someone down
If it’s a 1/5 or 2/5, add it to your calendar. Do it. Don’t defer it.
If it’s a 3/5, 4/5 or 5/5, don’t add it to your calendar if you can help it. Defer it, drop it completely or delegate it immediately.
Most of what we spend our time doing in the context of work isn’t really moving us towards our goals. I’ve been using the 1/2 method for a few months now and while it’s stupidly simple, its impact has been astounding.
