5 Ways to Reignite Your Motivation
When you’re motivated you are productive, you feel good, you feel driven and you’re moving in the right direction. But we’re all human, and you can’t sustain raw motivation all day every day. Things happen in life and sometimes you can lose that drive. Here are five ways you can get it back.
When you’re stuck inside your office or your house, the work can get repetitive. Being in business and being an entrepreneur is about being creative and energetic, not doing boring work. Whilst there will be monotonous parts of any business, you’ll be amazed at what fresh air can do for you. Just take a walk, go for a ride, even just sit in a park and do nothing for a while. Your brain will unwind, you’ll notice things you haven’t noticed before, and most importantly you have time to yourself. This time allows you to zoom out and think about what you’re doing, decide what’s really important and come up with creative ideas. When you get back to your desk you’ll be refreshed and your quality of work will increase.
There’s a book called The Art of Creative Thinking by Rod Judkins which is definitely worth reading, especially in these moments!
Talk to someone inspiring.
If you’re not feeling your best, have a conversation with someone inspiring. This could be a mentor, a friend, even a stranger you meet somewhere. Everybody has a story, and by listening to it you can appreciate their journey and also reflect on your own. When you’re stuck in your own world it’s easy to be consumed by your own thoughts, so get out there and chat to someone else. You’ll almost definitely walk away with something valuable.
Even if you’re just voicing your own thoughts and opinions, it feels good to get things off your chest. Don’t underrate the power of this!
Look at how far you’ve come.
Take a look at what you’ve achieved this far. You might be feeling down and you might be feeling tired, which can have an impact on your confidence. In these times it’s important to look back on how far you came to get to this point, the challenges you faced, the people you’ve helped. This doesn’t have to be a world-changing event, your positive impact on the world comes in many forms. Just reflect, and be proud of what you’ve done. You’ve proven that you can be that person, now it’s time to become it again.
Listen to good music.
I’ve read a lot books, watched a lot of videos and listened to a lot of talks, and something I never really see people touch on is music. I think music is one of the most underrated resources out there that can trigger all sorts of emotions. Similar to how simple thoughts can massively affect your mood, music also creates emotions that make a huge impact on how you feel, and it can be used productively. If you’re feeling down or you’re lacking motivation, listen to a good song. Either to cheer you up or to get you motivated — chuck on some good tunes!!!
Watch something uplifting.
Quite like listening to good music, you can watch something visual to get you going. There’s an endless amount of motivational videos on the internet, just type ‘motivational video’ into YouTube and choose any of them. Here’s one of my favourites. These work!
With these tips you can hopefully kick yourself back into gear and continue working on your goals. How do you stay driven? Let me know on Twitter at @mitchills
