Robots Can Now Rap As Well As Most People On YouTube

MIT just published some results from its rap-generating algorithm, and as someone who listens to his fair share of hip hop beats, I can say AI is now reaching a point where I’d be hard-pressed to differentiate between its street poetry and that of the average schmuck commenting on YouTube hip hop videos.

Doubt it? Try your luck below. Some of these lyrics are from MIT’s robo-rapper, and some are taken from the hellhole that is the Comments section of a popular instrumental on YouTube. The only thing I’ve done is repair any misspellings and tweak some punctuation… on the human-generated rhymes, of course. Let’s see how you fare. The answers are in the notes section, and the link to MIT’s findings are at the bottom of this post.

Who Wrote It?

Boom hopping right to the point/
goons — you play this joint in memory of the old school/
I keep it alive like a battery/
that’s why cats remember me causing catastrophes

My brother I love you, be encouraged man and just know/
When you done let me know cause my love make you be like whoa/
If I can’t do it for the love then do it I won’t/
All I know is I love you too much to walk away though

Some people tell me I'm great, some come to my face and hate/
either way I’m not coming here to debate/
I’m not here to tell your fate, just trying to explain my words that are great/
let me escape to a life where people relate

Haha I’m just playin’ ladies you know I love you/
I know my love is true and I know you love me too/
Girl I’m down for whatever cause my love is true/
This one goes to my man old dirty, one love we be swigging brew

For a chance at romance I would love to enhance/
but everything I love has turned to a tedious task/
one day we gonna have to leave our love in the past/
I love my fans but no one ever puts a grasp

I leave my heart open for the lady on the road/
her approach I feel is close destiny’s her name I’m told/
and so, will my flows make it to a record as I say this/
or just infertile seeds left buried on the pages

I love you momma, I love my momma — I love you momma/
and I would love to have a thing like you on my team you take care/
I love it when it’s sunny Sonny girl you could be my Cher/
I’m in a love affair I can’t share, it ain’t fair

Running with a spark to make a fire in the park/
I’m focused on the good, so all the bad can fall apart/
Grab the strings to your heart, play a song to make my art/
I know you love it, lyrics jumpin, bustin’ rugged from the start

It’s a brave new world, homies. Here’s the MIT article. All human lyrics were grabbed from the same YouTube URL in under five minutes of research.
