Edgy

I regularly see people describe things as edgy or that people are in some way trying to be edgy.

I’ve never heard someone who has created something edgy say that “I’m trying to create something edgy”, “I’m trying to be edgy” or “m8 I’m proper edgy”. I think I need to relook up he definition of the word.

Maybe the people responding to articles or fashion trends dismissed as people ‘trying to be edgy’ are mere edgeless one dimensional voids longing themselves to have edges.

I’m not saying these antagonistic people are edgeless spectres shrouded in perpetual mundanity. It’s just that the way they express the feelings the piece has bestowed upon them could be clearer. Ye know, constructive criticism and all that.

I guess the ways we perceive and our ability to articulate the ways we feel will never entirely be in line.

The niches of the edge have become so specific that the only way of accurately describing the differences between all the sub-cultures is with micro-terminology and sadly it doesn’t always come with a glossary.

I guess when you write an edgy piece you are writing for your microcosm of readership and everyone else can get learnt or get fucked. Unless not the way the edgeless perceive it.
