Today I had the chance to experience something that in 10 years will be as big as the smartphone.
The latest Samsung VR by Oculus that costs only $99 will usher us in this era of Virtual and Augmented reality. Off course we are now just waiting for Apple to enter the game and perfect the experience. Like always they come in later but bring something that makes technologies truly mainstream.
Our parents used to write diaries to save their thoughts and capture moments.
When cameras became a thing, everyone was taking photos with their Kodak and that was the start of saving moments and memories on film. Hence the popular saying “that was a Kodak moment”
After that came camcorders and everyone started making home videos. Parents filming their children’s first step was a huge thing.
Today we have the almighty smartphone recording every single moment of our lives. Photos, videos, live streaming…everything right there in your pocket.
I imagine a future where smartphones will have 360 cameras, that can capture the whole scene, everything around us. Live streaming to my friend acrross the Atlantic, who is experiencing it in VR, feeling like he is right next to me. Mark is already preparing Facebook for this huge shift in communication.
This is why VR its not going to be just for movies and videos. Its going to be for everything and in everyday life. Fun, work, learning, traveling, communications. Its going to be our generations closest thing to teleportation.
