The popularity of comic books in recent years has led to the development of many works into media mixes, and in most cases, it’s not unusual for a work to first be made into an anime and then into a movie or game. “OMORI” is a bizarre and creepy horror game adapted from a webcomic. Let me give you a brief synopsis.

Omori had been holed up in the “white room,” but opened the door of the room himself and visited the “Next Room” next door. There he met Basil, Mari, and others. Suddenly, he was forced back into the white room and found that Basil was missing. He and his friends set out on a journey to find Basil.

I haven’t played this game and watched the teaser video, but this is very interesting stuff! (I mean, I couldn’t imagine what kind of game it would be just from the teaser. It just had a nostalgic feel, reminiscent of the heyday of the SFC. More than that, though, it was creepy…) That’s no wonder, as the developer, OMOCAT, has said that he was influenced by “Mother” and “Dream Diary(ゆめ日記).” The story is a so-called “depressing game to play” like “Drag of Dragoon” or “Serial Experiments Lain”, which is just dark, gloomy, and always disturbing…

The game style is RPG, but the system is extremely original and matches the scenario perfectly. Distinct from combat status abnormalities such as poison and sleep in general RPGs, the game uses “emotions” to describe them. Depending on how the party members act, the characters may become angry or cry, which in turn changes their status, such as speed and defense, and the additional effects they gain after a battle. It’s a serious story and players’ tastes may differ, but I urge you to watch the teaser. If you’re a horror fan, I’m sure you will be interested.

See you tomorrow!
