As a horror lover, the only genre I have avoided… and that is splatter. Unruly youth, unreasonable violence, spurting blood… 「What a content that evilly accelerates people’s desires!」 Previously, I had taken a somewhat negative position with the most rationalizations. But undeniably, it was my self-loathing for my hidden curiosity(So, if a splatter movie was broadcast on TV, I watched it.) Certainly, these have eye-covering depictions and ethically-charged stories, but not all of them. It’s pure entertainment, and some great pieces incorporate a certain realism. Hence, it has long been established as a popular genre. This “SPLATTERHOUSE” is one of the early works that began to popularize the genre. Let me briefly introduce its contents.

Rick, a college student, visited West mansion with his girlfriend Jennifer. It is rumored that Dr. West, a researcher of the resurrection of the dead, created a monster and died as a result of his research. Once inside the mansion, they are attacked by a monster and Jennifer is taken away. Dying, Rick is approached by someone. It was the masked spirit Hellmask. Rick put on the Hellmask, acquired superhuman abilities, and stood up to save her.

The game system is a 2D side-scrolling action game. Yes, it has a dark atmosphere like the classic horror games “Castlevania” and “Ghosts’n Goblins. (魔界村).” However, many gloomy and cruel motions surpass them. (Yeah, I think it deserves the title. and the main character looks an awful lot like Jason from the movie Friday the 13th!) Weapons handled include machetes, axes, and shotguns (no chainsaws, as expected). What a surprise, a sequel has also been released! It is a very interesting game, although somewhat stimulating and challenging for children!

See you tomorrow!
