Mark your calendars. December 12 is El Día De La Virgen De Guadalupe and you know your mom is going to ask si fuiste a misa to wish La Virgen a Happy Birthday. Here are just a few examples of how you can join in on the celebration and keep mom happy.

It usually begins with mass at 5 a.m.

Yes it’s super early, but it’s so worth it. Mass usually includes a serenata from live mariachi singing “Las Mañanitas.”

After mass, comienza el baile with Aztec dancers.

Most only get to see this once a year.

What birthday girl doesn’t get flowers? La Virgen’s altars get decked out with a ton of beautiful flowers.

El Día De La Virgen De Guadalupe is a special day celebrated every year on December 12 honor, well, La Virgen De Guadalupe.

And although she doesn’t get a cake, she still gets velitas.

Velitas and veladoras.

Thousands gather for the festivities.

They bring pictures, wear medallas and any Virgen gear they can find.

And December 12 usually lends itself to a parade.

Because is it really a celebration without a mariachi?

The Basilica in Mexico City, especially, goes all out.

But other countries also celebrate with full Virgen floats.

Just a little bit of crafty moss goes a long, long way.

Ceremonies usually end with a fully interactive and nativity scene-themed La Virgen altar.
