What It Means To Become The ‘Fat Friend’
Your Fat Friend

I remember…

…learning this: Fat people are supposed to be ashamed of our bodies. That shame is meant to be a gift.

I was a little girl…maybe 8 years old…when the jokes and the ridicule began, all in fun, of course. But it still hurt…it hurt because it was from my father.

That shame is supposed to put us in our place and solidify “their” place…slim and superior.

Yes, I remember it so well and 61 years later it still affects how I see myself.
