Every 10 years the United States tasks the Census Bureau with tracking each state’s population.

The United States has a method of tracking the countries population called the “U.S Census Bureau”. Established 122 years ago, the bureau is responsible for producing statistics about the population and the economy. The bureau tracks a state’s population and keeps track of people’s age, race, gender, and ethnicity.

This is a very important task because this also allocates representatives for each state based on population size. Once the population size is determined then each state is assigned seats in the House of Representatives that they vote to fill.

In total, there are 435 seats in the House of Representatives that get divided among the states based on population. States like California and Texas will always have more representatives because they are large states with large populations.According to Britticana, California leads with the most representatives (52) while Alaska, Delaware, Vermont, North Dakota, and Wyoming have the least amount of reps (1).

Aside from representatives, the data is also used to Examine the demographic characteristics of communities, states, and the US, Plan transportation systems and roadways, and Create localized areas for elections, schools, utilities, and so much more.
