Interested in establishing a DAO organization on your own? I would like to share my own exciting experience with you.

As we move into the era of the Decentralized Internet, there are a lot of helpful tools available for creating and managing DAO projects in the Web3 space.

Here I would like to focus on a software solution called “Aragon,” which is built on an open-source infrastructure.

What is Aragon?

Could it be a kingdom established in Spain during the 11th century?

Well, in our present context, Aragon refers to a web-based application specifically created to generate DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations) using the Ethereum blockchain.

This platform enables you to generate governance tokens and utilize them to make decisions collaboratively with other members of your community.

Aragon is a powerful tool for decision-makings that require:
・Transparent community operation
・Location-independent collaboration
・Fund management

What is the Ethereum Test Environment?

I will illustrate the process of constructing DAOs utilizing the “Goerli” Testnet, which provides developers and users with a cost-free means to experiment with decentralized applications, rather than utilizing the genuine Ethereum blockchain.

“Goerli is a proof of authority (PoA) testnet Web3 developers use to test blockchain applications before launching them on the Ethereum Mainnet. To test smart contracts on the Goerli testnet, developers need Goerli ETH to execute transactions” (Alchemy).

How do I build a DAO project using Aragon

1. Visit the Aragon App Website

Go to https://aragon.org/ and click “Create your DAO” button.

2. Change Your Network Setting

Click “Ethereum” on the upper right.

This indicates that you are currently linked to the Ethereum Mainnet network; therefore, you must switch your network from Mainnet to a Testnet.

Click “Goerli” Testnet from select menu.

Now you can find you are ready to use “Goerli” Testnet, which is a recommended default Testnet for testing decentralized applications for free.

3. Connect Your Ethereum Wallet

Click “Connect account” in the upper right corner.

Click “Metamask” button. (If you have other kind of wallets, select the other one.)

MetaMask extension application will pop up on the right side if you have already installed it on your web browser.

Confirm your account is correctly shown and click on “Next” button. Then, click “Connect” button to connect your own wallet to Aragon.

4. Check the Active Account

Back to the menu and check if your wallet is connected to Aragon platform using Goerli Testnetwork.

5. Get Your Testnet Ethereum (GoerliETH) for Free

Here I use “Goerli Faucet” powered by an Web3 development platform Alchemy.

You are required to have at least 0.20 GoerliETH to create a new DAO organization. You may receieve GoerliETH which has no-real value for free in order to conduct an experiment before deploying a real DAO project on Ethereum Mainnet.

Some of you might not have any GoerliETH yet. Then please follow the procedures below.

First, sign in to Alchemy and create your account. https://www.alchemy.com/

Second, visit https://goerlifaucet.com/

Copy and paste your wallet address from MetaMask into the form and click on “Send Me ETH” button to gain 0.2 GoerliETH.

Check MetaMask wallet to see whether 0.2 GoerliETH is correctly sent to your Ethereum wallet.

6. Create a New Organization

Click “Create an organization.”

Select your organization with pre-configured templates. As an example, use the “Company” template.

Confirm the contents of Company template and click on “Use this template.”

7. Assign ENS (Ethereum Name Service) to Your Organization

Select an appealing name for your DAO organization and then proceed to click on “Configure template.”

8. Configure Settings of Your Organization

Set appropriate values according to the needs of your organization. I used the default values for an experiment. Click “Configure template.”

9. Define Your Token

Give an outstanding name to your token as well as token symbol (normally token symbol is an abbreviation of its token name).

Add token holders by pasting the wallet addresses of your organization members in the form and assign token balances (ex. 20) and click “Review information.”

10. Review Information

Take a look at all the settings before launching your own organization.

All done! Congratulations, your first DAO project is now up and running.

Head to the menu and get started.

Creating your own DAO project using Aragon is easier than you might think. DAOs have the potential to create more equitable and inclusive societies by empowering people to collaborate and make decisions together.

My philosophy is centered around using technology to build bridges between individuals with kindness and compassion. Thank you for reading, and I look forward to continuing this journey in future posts.
