I am guilty of this behavior myself — it is so much easier to see someone else’s situation than it is to see my own. When I am supporting a friend, I always use the deep and powerful wisdom imparted to me by smartly dressed flight attendants: if the oxygen masks deploy, put on yours first. If you don’t, you may not be able to help your children/partner/others.
Once again I admit that it is much easier to say this to other people than to myself. Thanks to you, Scott Harling, I am reminded to try.
