InAppTranslation UX review
Yesterday morning, I met my friend who is experienced UX designer. He checked InAppTranslation site and gave me a lot of feedbacks.
I summarized those feedbacks here.
Apps and Upgrade top hierarchy
Apps -> Each App -> Translation/Analytics/UserFeedbacks/AppSettings
Upgrade -> My Profile/Billing/Plans/Email Notification
This is a bit complicated.
We move My Profile, Billing, and Email Notification to the dropdown list shown from the email address mouse over.
Replace “Upgrade” top menu to “Plan”
Translation Dashboard
The content above the translation data table occupies much space. Users need to scroll down the table to edit the table content.
- Shrink the app title area height
- Move the app title into the tab title area
- Shrink the tab title area height
are possible solutions.
“+” button is a bit too far from the rest of buttons, so might be better in the tab button area.
“+” button is hard to guess the feature. Having text with + icon might help the user understand the feature like below
One idea is “+” button with title text -> Once any member is added, turn it only with “+” button.
Redesign ADD NEW KEY control more friendly for heavy users
Things we might be able to remove
Username from the user account
Add Team Member dialog will not have either the list of members or search feature. Just input email address and press Invite or Add. If the email matches, new user is added.
We need to find a new design idea on this.
Email verification
This will discourage users to go forward and login.
Search app feature on All Apps page
Search feature isn’t necessary. + search bar might give users who don’t have many apps a feeling that the tool is not designed for them (i.e. the tool is for big corporates.)
One idea — Hide Search bar (and lift up app list) until the number of app exceeds 12.

Onboarding flow
The view above is the one the user will look after login. This is a bit empty.
We need something like above on top of the translation table area to tell users what is the next step.
Something like this.
Maybe good to keep showing a dialog explaining how to install iOS framework and embed code dialog on Translation/Analytics/User Feedbacks views if the server has never received any api access from the current app.
Landing Page Review
Remove “Sign up” button since there are two GET STARTED buttons. Keep “Sign in” button for the users who have accounts.
Top title and description
More friendly to non-engineer type of people
Current copy is purely for engineers, and not understandable for project managers. Use more phrases which sell to project managers or non-engineer people.
Make it express what we want to sell most.
The tool is data management service, say, managing bunch of strings.
but the ideal behavior I would like my customer to do is they add keys and order translation, then our system will automatically add translation data quickly. The lower left part of the figure above is the use case of “Managing Data”, and the upper right part of the figure is the use case of “Translate the app on the InAppTranslation”.
We want to encourage users to go toward the upper right. Thus the title of the landing page should express this will.
Since many tools make installation easy, we need to make it more unique.
Make it more specific and with details.
Maybe it’s interesting to map each stage of app development and deployment cycle to the regions the app will support in the message, for example
- 1st stage -> US, Japan, China
- 2nd stage -> Europe
- 3rd stage -> South East Asia
- 4th stage -> Africa
Insert one more block
Add one block above the yellow block which explains core value of our service. The yellow block explains the secondary value of the service, but without the block explaining the core value, people think this yellow block is the core value of this tool.
Need any help? is not necessary at the stage where a user is checking the landing page, so might set up different message for the user to contact us.
