Lets Start the New Year with Love! (by Rumi)
I started reading Rumi who was a Persian poet, jurist, Islamic scholar, theologian, and Sufi mystic when I was in high school thanks to my cousin Gurdit Singh, who gave me his book for my birthday. As a practicing Sikh I was familiar with the Sufi philosophy and way of life. Rumi is considered to be one of the biggest and well known Sufis in the world and rightfully so. His poetry starts unlocking different parts of your mind that you knew existed but never tapped into it before.
Here is one of my favorite quotes on love by him:
In the slaughterhouse of love, they kill only the best, none of the weak or deformed. Don’t run away from this dying. Whoever’s not killed for love is dead meat.
I think great writers say the best and most though provoking things using the least amount of words. Rumi epitomizes that for me, I hope he will for you too. Thanks for reading!
