On air — Facebook Live
I always hear that you should do something everyday that scares you. I’m happy to announce that today, I did.
Vlogging is something that is natural for some people, specially in this day ang age. Those people would record themselves talking as if they were physically in front of a friend. However, I see two factors in which vlogging may be hard for some people. 1. Like me, they are not too active on social media. 2. The mere fact that you are talking to a screen, not seeing or hearing the reactions of the people on the other end. Facebook live, is even more challenging because you cannot edit parts in or out. The moment my professor decided to make us do a live video was absolutely nerve-racking.
Before I get into detail of what went down during my live video experience, I want to say that I am grateful that my professor made us do this activity. If he didn’t, I would never have done it. I believe that when it comes to new media, you should not fall behind. You should always be updated with these mediums because it is how you will communicate with other people. You need to adapt to the changes and advancements that happen around you.
Due to the fact that it was my first live video, I thought it would be a good idea to do it with some friends who I am very comfortable with. At first, I thought that I should have a program flow, or that I should think of a sequence of what will happen in the live video. Maybe start with a game, then towards the end get a little more serious. However, I realized that it could also be entertaining if my friends and I just talked to the audience casually. I thought that it would be engaging enough if the live video was light, simple, and funny — and that is what happened.
The only thing that bugged me is that the live video got cut 10 minutes after I started, because I accidentally clicked the wrong button. When I put it my live video back, less people saw the video. But regardless of this situation, I am happy that I enjoyed, my friends who were with me enjoyed, and the audience enjoyed.
This activity was a learning experience. It made me more comfortable talking to a computer screen, learn how to engage with an audience online and so much more! This made me less scared of trying new things online, which is something big for me! :)
