As a developer of technology, I feel it’s important to remind people that no technology cares how it’s used, and that care should be given to avoid blaming it for misuse, or even perceived misuse.
Worth noting is that much of the content on Facebook Live isn’t for your consumption. It’s simply an extension of Facebook itself, providing yet another medium of communication.
That live video of three drunk girls is no different than (an unfortunate) public sharing a meme starting out “Me on a Friday night.” To their friends, that might be the best thing they’ve seen all week.
Democratization of content production isn’t bad. The real problem is one of curation. Google+ is far better at that than Facebook. I’d trying there next Friday night.
