This not only confused me when I first started with Rails, it pissed me off. What were all of these colons doing and why did they seem to just pick and choose what side of a word to be on.

After I realized most of them were just hashes and symbols things started to make more sense. Great article, hopefully, it will save someone else from the confusion I faced.
