This something like the disconnect that critics had about Game of Thrones. There is source material, you know? Besson’s characters might be faithful to that source and suffer as a result. By the same token, Benioff and Weiss are not geniuses for presenting the readers’ digest version of GRRM for tv critics too lazy to read books. Yes, they can do a very good job but they changed a lot less than, say, Peter Jackson did by making the somewhat whimsical LotR trilogy into a dark and fully apocalyptic war.
