Putting Psyc-406 to the test

I must say that I am extremely happy that I took this class and that I was able to realize that psychological testing isn’t as scary as I thought it was! Seeing as I had never formally taken a class on it, my impressions were that psychological testing was usually really dry and boring and only measured mundane constructs but I was wrong! While this class has taught me that you can apply psychological tests to a lot of constructs, it got me to thinking about how one would evaluate the overall satisfaction levels that the students had upon taking this course.

Teacher evaluations are a good way to see how well students responded to a class. While the results might sometimes be biased, students generally tend to answer these questionnaires truthfully as it is in their best interest. However, I know first hand that the mercury course evaluation emails tend to be quite annoying, especially when you get several a day and I catch myself putting off answering these questionnaires.

As for my impression of the class, I can truly say that I thoroughly enjoyed it! While it was a bit difficult to make it to class early on a Friday, it was always worth it! The component of the class that I find really stood out was these blogs! While I was a bit nervous at first, I got more and more comfortable expressing myself and actually enjoyed myself. Most psychology classes I have taken have more or less taken the 40% midterm, 60% final scheme and I find that these blogs are a fun way to assess our knowledge on the topic and I would definitely encourage Professor Stotland to use them again. I also learned so much from the project and while it was challenging at times, I enjoyed filling out other student’s questionnaires and working on my project. If I had to give this class a grade, I would definitely give it an A for the reasons that it uses more than one way to evaluate us which is at the core of this class and which is not very common in psychology courses.
