A glimpse into the Orphan Black cloning.

Orphan Black, a five-season action series, compels fans into the issues of human cloning and its effect on personal identity.

Although BBC has said farewell to the series, fans have not. There are various fan sites dedicated to the show and its characters to discuss and remember Orphan Black. Three fan sites, orphanblack.wikia.com, fanpop.com and cloneclub.global all share the same purpose but differ in layout and engagement.

Orphanblack.wikia.com is what they call an encyclopedia website where one can find all things related to Orphan Black. The welcome page includes a slideshow of links to episode recaps, season five and characters in the show. The page also features videos, polls and discussions for fans.

The wikia fan page achieves its goal in sharing content, media and engaging fans through updates; however, the advertisements featured on the page take away from its purpose and layout. None of the advertisements are related to the TV show or the BBC network.

Orphan Black first aired on BBC on March 30, 2013.

Fanpop.com also has unrelated advertisements; however, it contains more content on the welcome page to engage Orphan Black fans. The welcome page features a header with all of the characters followed by show images, videos, polls, discussions and articles. The site also offers a global chat on the welcome page for fans to discuss the show while browsing through the site.

Fanpop.com is more interactive than the wikia fan page through its global chat, and user-friendly links to find out more about the show and talk with fans, but it is also lacking appreciation to the Orphan Black fans. Cloneclub.global is an appealing and engaging site that keeps fans updated on what show-related topics are trending.

Cloneclub.global is consistent with branding through promotion and its attractive layout. The page includes show content, images, videos, polls, discussions and fan art. It also allows fans to subscribe to a newsletter, unleash creativity and like its social media pages.

Not only is cloneclub.global the best with its appeal and branding, but it also engages fans extremely well. The site offers a place for fans to submit art, poetry, discussion and polls. In addition, fans can enter in contests as well as shop for Orphan Black books and soundtracks.

All three sites are user-friendly with links that navigate the user to show content and fan engagement. However, all of the fan pages could improve on color choice. The series is full of action, drama and science-fiction however the color lacks to relate to any of the show’s brand.

The sites have simple color, sticking to a white layout with some hints of black or navy blue throughout the page. To relate to Orphan Black, the sites could add some color to the layout to connect with the characters or plot. For example, the sites could add some pink to connect to the character Alison or add some red to relate to blood which ties to the show.

Overall, orphanblack.wikia.com, fanpop.com and cloneclub.global are all effective in with the purpose they want Orphan Black fans to appreciate. While they are different in layout and engagement, each share the mission to bring together all of the Orphan Black fans from around the world.
