Cake#1 — How to make a Los Angeles Angels cake!

For the 2017 Major League baseball I’ve taken on a personal challenge to make a cake for every team once a week! I’m only an amateur baker and passionate baseball fan with the intentions of inspiring others.

The first cake of my 2017 MLB personal cake challenge is a Los Angeles Angels cake! The Angels franchise started in 1961 as part of the MLB expansion that also included the Washington Senators. The design that I’ve chosen for this fondant covered cake was a baseball stitched themed. I’ve also included on the cake 1961 for the 1st year of the Angels franchise. The cake itself is Red Velvet (Betty Crocker Super Moist Red Velvet cake mix) with homemade Philadelphia cream cheese frosting.

I’ve also made a step by step tutorial video :

For the Cake Mix I’ve substituted 1 cup of water with 1 cup of Milk. I’ve also substituted ½ cup of Oil with 1 stick of butter.

To make my Cream cheese frosting:

1 lbs of Powdered Sugar.

1 (8 ounce) bar of Philadelphia Cream cheese

1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

8 teaspoons of whole Milk.

For fondant: I’ve used Wilton decorator preferred Red Vanilla Flavored Fondant, Wilton decorated preferred White Vanilla fondant and Americolor blue food gel coloring I’ve tinted a little bit of the White Vanilla fondant.

The Entire cake cost me almost $26.00 to make. The two biggest expenses were Fondant and the Angles fondant/cookie cutter. I personal find It easier to use the Fondant/Cookie cutters then trying to trace a logo. If you were to make your own fondant and to also trace your own logo’s then the cake would be a lot cheaper to make.

Here are the expenses:

12 ounces of Milk $0.22

3 whole caged free Eggs $0.32

2 LBS of powdered Sugar $1.28

1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract $0.25

1 teaspoon blue Americolor gel food coloring $0.25

2 (8 ounce packages) of Philadelphia Cream Cheese $3.99

Betty Crocker Super Moist Red Velvet cake mix $1.50

1 cake board (10 inch found) $0.50

1 box Wilton decorator preferred Red Vanilla Flavored Fondant $6.59 (The original price was $10.99 but I’ve used a 40% off coupon).

1 box of Wilton decorated preferred White Vanilla Flavored fondant $4.79 (The Original price was $7.99 but I’ve used a 40% off coupon).

1 Angels logo 3 inch cookie cutter was $5.50

Other supplies that I’ve used was a fondant mat, an X-Acto knife, College Font numbers, Wilton Drying rack, Wilton Fondant and Gumpaste Cut N spin board and Cake Boss I Love Frosting Cake Decorating Turntable.

Next week ending I’m making an Houston Astros cake.
