In this article, we will introduce 5 differences between 2835 and 3528, the two most popular SMD LED light sources in the field. Actually, 2835 is a newer model, or we can say it’s improved by 3528. That’s why they are so similar in appearance. OK, let’s get down to business. Here are the 5 main differences between 2835 and 3528.

1. Appearance:

As we all know, the model number shows the external size of the SMD LED. Therefore, 2835 (2.8*3.5mm) and the 3528 (3.5*2.8mm) have the same dimensions in length and width. The difference is the thickness, 2835’s regular thickness is 0.8mm, half of 3528. Please see the following picture, the SMD 2835 LED looks much slimmer. That can effectively decrease the size of the finished products.

2. Luminous Flux:

Luminous flux is a critical metric that mainly determined by the size of the diode. The higher the luminous flux, the higher the brightness. Due to 2835 can package bigger diode, the 2835’s luminous flux is 25 lumens far higher than the 3528’s 8 lumens. And the power of 2835 is also higher than that of 3528. Therefore, 3528 is a low-power LED, and 2835 can be mid-power LED and high-power LED.

3. Heat Dissipation

Compare to 3528, 2835 is designed with an additional bottom heat sink, which can help the LED effectively dissipate the heat from itself. Better heat dissipation means lower temperatures. That not only increases the working life but also make the SMD 2835 LED can achieve higher power, higher brightness, and better durability.

4. Price

As a user, the product price is alway an import dimension that affects our choice. As we said above, 2835 has a newer design and a more complicated internal structure, the price of 2835 will be higher than 3528. The good news is, with these years of development, the price of 2835 is much lower than the earlier period.

5. Application area

In most lighting industries, 3528 has been substituted by 2835. The latter is widely used in LED strips, spotlights, linear lights, and so on. The high luminous flux, better heat dissipation, and smaller size are the key features. Moreover, 2835 also has high competition in the mid-power and high-power SMD LED industry. But 3528 is still used for some low-power lighting products. For instance, some LED strip manufacturers will produce a kind of high-density LED strip with hundreds of 3528 LEDs. The low-power of 3528 now is an advantage.

With the further development of the 2835 series, it’s no doubt that 2835 will completely replace the 3528, and further dominate the SMD LED industry.
