Jessica Rabbit has my favorite line: “You don’t know how hard it is being a woman looking the way I do.” Poor Jessica, she was just “drawn that way.” Stuck in a timeless superficial lament.

It’s humorous, at sixty-odd years of age, to recall lamenting to my mom how I hated the way I looked in a bathing suit. We had just left the most effete dress shop in a small downtown in Alabama. Mom having spent the last of her paycheck to buy it, haughtily disagreed. Damn, I was seventeen! Damn, I must have looked how a warm blanket looks to a freezing…
