Things I’ve learned consulting on Upwork
1. Many startups founders are clueless about technology
2. A few bad Ratings ≠ the end of the world. Clients come and go, some are easy to work with, others are not.
3. Quantity ≠ Quality
4. Long term partnerships are the key to a thriving consulting practice within the economy of platform dynamics. Those long term partnerships = good ratings + high earnings
5. Very difficult to get fair and consistent ratings with one-off clients
6. 10x performance = healthy workload
7. Hourly work is not always the best option; Be Declarative = ERO (End Results Oriented)
8. Decline (unless you like doing free work) when you see anything like this: “This is just the first phase of the project and there will be a lot more work after I secure investment. “ — Means they are broke.
