Hello. Bonjour. Hola.
Monique Louis
Every morning I wake up to a “reveille toi” or a “levántate.”
Everytime I come back from school I’m asked “comment etait ta journée?” or a “como era tu día?”.
And every night I get a kiss “bonne nuit” and “asta mañana”.
People ask how I do it, people ask if I get confused. Occasionally I’m asked “how do your parents communicate?” Well, they speak English! Not to me though.
Je suis haïtienne. I am Haitian.
Soy Colombiana. I am Colombian.
I am biracial and trilingual, and no, I don’t get confused.
Goodbye. Au revoir. Adios.

How I spend my time outside of school:

What I worry about:

A Charlie Brown Christmas- Christmas is Here
Christmas has always been my favorite holiday, and while the gifts are nice, they’re not my favorite part, not by a mile. Christmas time was always a time when family I would only see once a year would come down for a week or two to celebrate with us. We have a lot of Christmas traditions, like watching A Christmas Carol: The Muppets. But one of my favorite things about the holidays is the music. My family and I enjoy dancing and singing along to our Christmas favorites, and this is one of them. I also love Charlie Brown, my brother and I used to watch it all the time. So whenever I hear this song, good memories, and good music flow through my head.

I was doing biology homework at 9:00 last night.
I enjoy curling up in my basement and watching sports and movies.

Jesse Owens is one of my huge inspirations. Not only was he an amazing sprinter, but he was confident and respectful. When he went to the 1936 Olympic Games in a Hitler-ridden Germany, he kept his calm and preformed excellently under a racist ruler and country at the time.

Will Smith also inspires me because he is a great, funny actor, as well as a good, caring human. He is smart, and he is living proof that even after all things go wrong, any small opportunity can make everything right.

My dad is a huge soccer fan, so I grew up loving soccer as well. Out of all the talented soccer players I know, Pele is by far the most talented one. Growing up poor on the streets of Brasil, he practiced with his father using a sock filled with newspaper. I admire his persistence, and his incredible skill in the game of soccer.
