Book: The Collapsing Empire

My first foray into the John Scalzi literary universe, I was happily rewarded by the experience.

This tale starts with a galactic empire. It comprises of a thriving network of dozens of planets linked by the mysterious Flow. The Flow is a trans-dimensional “stream” allowing faster than light transit between star systems.

The problem is that the Flow is shifting and within the next decade, it appears that the empire will be cut off. This is a huge problem because the various colonized worlds cannot exist without the intersystem route trade.

Reminiscent of Dune, it’s stocked with warring houses, emperors, a backwater planet and “magic space travel sh*t”.

The ending was unique, it really looks like it’s the first book in a series, but it wouldn’t be impossible to end where it currently left off. Long story short I liked it. If you like sci-fi, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy this.

As always, happy reading and until next time.
