My Journey Home

An Adoption Story — How it began!

The Beginning

My life began several decades ago in the city of Montreal, Canada. My birthmother as an unwed mother who, like many, was scared at the prospect of having a child at the age of 20, unsure of what lies ahead as a parent, unsure of her ability to support her child and whether the birthfather would even be in the picture. I can’t imagine the difficulty of decisions that she needed to make. Her only confidant was her younger sister who was with her to the many trips to the doctor during the pregnancy.

For several reasons of which I am not totally aware I was placed into an orphanage at the beginning of my life. Today as I reflect, I wouldn’t change a thing.

My Adoption

My adoption has been celebrated by my parents for as long as I can remember. Every since I was 11 months old I have had the fortune of having very loving and supportive parents. Parents who have raised me into the successful man I am today!

My Journey Home

I have titled this story as my journey home to reflect an attempt to understand my lineage, my birth culture and a sense of who i am. It is important to me that you understand that this journey is no reflection on my wonderful parents who have molded me into there person I am but rather an intimate journey of self discovery.

As a business owner I have coined 2013 as a year of “Back to the Basics.” It seems funny that in my personal life there are forces and opportunities to do the same. I was told in April of this year (after several months of discovery) that my contact in the Montreal area is ready to begin a discussion with my birth mother in an attempt to initiate a reunion.

As this process continues to unfold I have a mix of curiosity and a sense of duty to my children to understand mine and their medical history.

I’m sure, either way, that my life will not be the same! I’m looking forward to this journey! (April 2013)
