The following is continuation of a story that began in April 2013! I’m not sure the best way to tell this story but like everything else I do… doing something is better than wishing I did! ☺
Excerpts from my Word Press Blog
Earlier this year I spoke of getting back to the basics in my personal and professional life. This is a journey and a never ending set of opportunities which need to be embraced with all of the emotions attached. I’ve spoke about my adoption being celebrated by my parents and that I’ve been fortunate to be in a loving and supportive family for as long as I can remember.
Today I have an opportunity is to speak with my birthmother for the first time in my life. I’m not sure what I’ll say, what emotions I’ll feel or what will be the ultimate outcome. I have been blessed by many qualities of which I’m proud but I will be facing this conversation wishing I had a greater store of empathy.
I’ve made my way through life by being able to use my intellect, my sense of humor and my ability to maintain focus on my vision for life. My success, if you will, has ultimately been from trial and error. Today , however, is my first attempt … with no experience… in a very delicate opportunity to connect with the person who gave me life.
I hope that I’m equipped with an adequate supply of empathy, the ability to chose the right words and to know when to say nothing. I hope that this is an opportunity to begin a relationship with her and learn more about my heritage.
There are many ways in which today can play out. The potential is endless. I must be ready for anything!
