A Painful Question of the Day
Nicole Dieker

Spending cash doesn’t necessarily feel less real, but then again I do it as little as possible — I’ve probably spent less than $100 in cash since the start of the year (this is partially due to the advent of Venmo in my life). Cash is also more of PITA — as someone who has her own set of ridiculous spreadsheets to track her spending, I have more to remember, especially since cash-only places/experiences are more likely to not give out receipts.

I did start a system (“system”) where I rounded up every cash expense to the nearest dollar on my spreadsheets and put the change in a jar. I thought I was going to trick myself into saving a little true fun money, but it’s been more than a year and a half and I don’t think I even have $20 :(
