Credibility of Internet Material

In the world today, it is becoming harder to differentiate between unreliable and reliable sources. Since anyone can post whatever they want on the web, it is extremely important to be able to tell the difference. There are different ways one can determine if a source is credible or not.

Through this article, I learned many different hints to determine if source is trustworthy, and also came to recognize a variety of web resources. When I am searching for information on the internet for whatever topic I am writing, I usually choose the sites that are listed first. I learned that articles are listed in order of relevance, not reliability.

I learned that you should check who the author is first to see if they have the background to give them authority to write on that particular topic. It is also a noteworthy idea to research if the author has any peer reviewed publications. Lastly, you should see if there could possibly be any reason the author is biased towards his/ her topic that could lead to skewed information.

Besides the author, there is a list of other items you should check off the list to determine if the information is reliable or not. You should look at the date the source was published, if there are other credible sources referenced to back up the author’s opinion, and look at the Web site in general to see if there are any suspicions that it may not be reliable.
