Governor Roy Cooper

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper was born and raised in Nash County. Before attending UNC-Chapel Hill, he attended a public high school and worked on his family’s farm during the summers. After Cooper graduated from UNC with a law degree, he returned home to his wife and three kids to practice law.

Before Cooper was elected as a representative for North Carolina, he was a lawyer. In 1987, Cooper became a representative for the North Carolina House.

Cooper was a representative for the North Carolina House. Then, he served as a North Carolina Sen. from 1991 to 2001. This lead to him becoming the attorney general from 2001 to 2017 and from 2017 to present time, he is currently serving as governor.

Gov. Cooper desires to keep the public schools strong and remain top ten educated by 2025. Gov. Cooper has proposed more funding to update school facilities, more physical and mental health employees and increase the funding for protection of schools.

Recently, Gov. Cooper signed a bill that will allow schools to move remote learning rather than online. He also requires the district to vote once a month for requiring masks.
