A Thing About Modern Abstract Art

I have to admit, I am not a big fan of abstract art, as I prefer art that tells a story, or conveys a message. Yet, I don’t agree with those who dismiss modern abstract art as nonsense. Perhaps, Kazimir Malevich’s The Black Square is the most controversial work of modern abstract art. It has undergone numerous attempts of interpretation by those who try to see beyond the black square, but none of these came out as convincing enough for the artistic laymen. What does matter, however, is the artist’s intention in coming up with his artwork. Meaningful or meaningless, it is a relative thing, because, after all, art is a matter of intention by the artist regardless of the audience’s perception.
