So beautifully and concisely put. THANK YOU. A meme that really hit home for me during the election in 2016 featured slugs carrying campaign signs that said “slugs for salt!” and I felt like this was such a profound metaphor not just for poor and working class conservatives in America who supported 45, but for neoliberalism in general (and all those who identify consciously or unconsciously with it across the political spectrum). You can’t have neoliberalism without dogmatic adherence to capitalism. It’s fascinating how eager people are to buy into doctrines and practices that blatantly exploit and stymie them. I guess the key delusion in there is “buy into,” since we’ve collectively become accustomed to a system in which our identities and values are only as good as the purchases we make and the buying power we possess. It’s a bunch of malarkey. Anyway, thanks for writing shorter and accessible content that breaks this down so nicely!
