Criteria of WWW Resources Thoughts

The article Criteria to Evaluate the Credibility of WWW Resources was very informative. From the article, I learned some tips and tricks for examining online resources, and to see if they are credible or not. I have been using the internet for almost my whole life, and I never thought about doing some of the things mentioned in the article to check the credibility of sources.

The most important thing I learned from the article was to always think of who is writing a source. Does the writer have a personal agenda, or are they completely unbiased? It is very important to understand the intent of an article, so you don’t mistake bias for fact.

Another thing I learned from the article was how to tell if an article was trustworthy by checking it’s credentials. For example, in news and journalistic sites, they can be considered much more credible if they have an ISSN (International Standard Serial Number). News and journalistic sites that don’t have an ISSN should be cited with discretion, but that isn’t to say that they are automatically untrustworthy.

The final thing I learned from the article is to check a websites sources. If a website is credible, they will usually have a list of the works they have cited in their article. Be wary of websites that don’t have a list of cited works, because there is no way to validate anything the article says.

When checking an online article for credibility, always keep your eyes peeled for bias, authenticity of the website, or just blatant misinformation.
