It’s the start of term and if you’re arriving at Manchester Met for the first time, congratulations and we’re excited to meet you!
The Library is offering you a warm library-shaped welcome this September with a series of exciting events — from a fantastic free book giveaway, golden tickets hidden in the Library, thought-provoking workshops and visits to the remarkable Manchester Central Library.
First, the practical stuff. To get you started in the Library and introduced to the services we offer there’s a helpful New to the Library? guide. We’ve ‘Getting started videos’ explaining how to find a book, borrow a laptop and get to All Saints Library from the Birley campus. But don’t forget to attend your Welcome talk, even if you view the videos, as there’s plenty more useful info we need to pass on to you.
Free Book Giveaway
Our Book Giveaway for new students starting in September 2019 is ‘Behind Closed Doors’ by Miriam Halahmy.
Look out for print copies of the book which you’ll be able to pick up from various locations across campus during Welcome Week. If you prefer, you can read the whole book online.
‘Behind Closed Doors’ has been described as moving, compelling, sensitive and heart-wrenching in its 5* reviews, and we hope you find it enjoyable and thought-provoking too.
Miriam will be our guest at our #MeetTheAuthor event on Wednesday 25th September at 2.00 p.m. in the Library Chat Zone. Please book a free ticket here (as we need numbers for the free pizzas) but everyone is welcome!
Between 16–27 September, we’ll be hiding loads of golden tickets in the Library. You’ll need to follow @MMULibrary on Twitter and Instagram for the clues and then it’s over to you to find the tickets. Once you’ve found a golden ticket take it to the Welcome Desk on the Ground Floor of the Library where it can be exchanged for a voucher that entitles you to a hot drink and scrumptious piece of cake.
Book a tour of the Library
To find out more about the Library, where to find books and resources for your subjects and the different zones within the All Saints Library building, why not book a tour of the Library? Take a look at the Library calendar on the Library website to find a convenient date for your tour.
If you want to get ahead with your research skills then the Library offers a thought-provoking and useful series of workshops on research skills, Fake News and organising your research through EndNote. These workshops will run throughout September and October and details can be found on the Library calendar.
Library to Library: visit to Manchester Central Library
All Saints Library has a great leisure reading collection provided by our friends at Manchester Public Libraries and curated by our Love to Read team.
On 20 September and 11 October why not join us and get out in the city with Library to Library: visit to Manchester Central Library. We’ll meet up outside the All Saints Library from where we’ll head up Oxford Road to Manchester Central Library to explore the amazing free resources and services available once you’re all signed up as a member of Manchester Public Libraries.
With the Library open 24/7 until the end of the Summer term 2020, just remember to follow Hermione Granger’s excellent advice:
‘When in doubt, go to the library.’
You’ll always be assured of a warm welcome because we’re always Happy to Help!
