“Life’s a journey, to find the people weird like you.” — Atticus

Heads up, this is not a poem.

But an appreciation letter for someone who helps me adjust my lenses to see this little world of ours from a much better angle.

You.

Yes, you.

You whom I have never exactly planned to meet at the most unexpected time. You who happened to be the reason behind these stolen smiles and random laughs. You with your deep, mischievous dimples and faint smiles. You and your earthy eyes and the way it matches your wondering gaze. Your voice and how your heavy accent makes my heart flutter. Your silly jokes, along with your funny stories and cheesy and random pick-up lines you love to throw.

Just you, and how you unveiled this ridiculously poetic and cringey-unknown side of mine I never knew I have.

It has been a year, and I wish I could stress enough how spellbound I still feel after meeting you, that when I think of listing my favorite things on earth, it is your name that spring to mind first; that when I listen to my favorite song, it is your voice I am craving more to hear; that when somebody asks me what my favorite color is, it is your lustrous eyes I ought to spill; that despite feeling the cool breeze brushes against my skin, it is still your warm breaths I wish to feel.

I’ve always been a staunch believer that we are a mosaic of everything, and everything is a mosaic of our being. So I dearly hope and pray that by this point you’ve finally understood that your sole existence isn’t merely an existence but a precious and gentle comfort to every life your presence has touched— especially mine. I hope you realize that every bit of who you were and who you are is sprinkled on every floor you step onto, every book you hold and read, every cold wall you touched, and every word that comes out of your mouth. Cliché as this may sound, but you matter more than you think.

Your entire being is more than just what you can offer, but how much willing you are to give without asking for anything in return. It is the amount of times you chose to show up when you’d rather shut people out. Much better than the way you let the silence linger between your lips when you’ve got thousands of words trapped behind them begging to be freed. Despite your best efforts to show yourself tough at all times, the universe will always have its funny way of exposing that soft heart you have been trying to hide all along.

I see you. I hear you. I feel you.

You’ve had enough hiding and running. And I know how much fear our world carries, but I hope you take more risks by showing up for you hold the hope it always needs.

You have helped me see the world in a way I never would have imagined. Introduces me to new perspectives and ideas I never knew existed. Taught me to face the fears I didn’t even realize I was afraid of confronting— and for that, I am beyond words grateful. You deserve nothing but the best, and the same love you keep trying to give everyone else.

So please do remember this: If today is still not that one day I always pray for Him to give you, know how happy and grateful I would be to wait and keep praying for it with you — always, in all ways.

Loving you is my sanctuary.

Thank you for existing.
