With the ease of air freight services, the prohibition laws that are associated with it often bring problems to most unaware business owners. Thus, you should consult with the professionals before going ahead.

Air freight services are very much premium when it comes to cargo businesses. The services are used mainly for high-value items and urgent deliveries. Most of the manufacturers benefit from this type of services for receiving on-time components, and distributing new products which is on high demand.

However, there are some restrictions on the size and weight of the goods that are to be carried. Air freight forwarding services in Sheffield have rules which prohibit some items to carry. Therefore, it is better that you learn about the prohibition rules before sending your goods. Moreover, packaging comes with a special importance and the pricing is generally based on the weight. The best part is you can track your shipment when you deliver your goods through air freight services.

Air Freight Options

Majority of the shippers opt for the relatively affordable option of Consolidated Freight or Consols. Like the sea freight, this is where the freight forwarders combine a shipment with others to create a cost-effective service and to get better rates from the airline. However, consolidated freights do not run regularly. They often serve once or twice in a week. This may become a problem for companies who have more goods to ship. In this situation, business owners can sign up for normal freight planes to send or receive back to back shipment.

Items prohibited by the air freight services

Air freight services have some additional restrictions for items that may endanger the aircraft or the passengers or cause property damage. They include:

Explosives: Firecrackers, fireworks, detonating fuses or similar items.

Gases: Compressed gas, dry ice, fire extinguisher, gas cartridge, aerosol, gas cylinder, etc.

Flammable liquids: Paint, gasoline, alcohol, mobile, petrol or diesel, camphor oil, turpentine, etc.

Flammable solid: Pyrophoric substances, materials that emit flammable gases when in contact with water: e.g. titanium powder, activated carbon, copra, castor products, etc.

Toxic and infectious items: Pesticides and lithium batteries.

Magnetic substances: Magnetic steel and other strong magnetic products including currency detectors, speakers and magnets.

Other products: Oxidizers, radioactive materials and lab chemicals (potassium permanganate, sulphuric acid)

Biochemical products: Infectious materials like bacillus anthracis, dangerous pathogens and medical wastes.

Remember, these prohibition laws may vary depending on the destination, source of shipment and the company that is delivering the same. It is better that you consult with an air freight forwarder before sending the shipment.
