Creating Excerpts of YouTube Videos with TubeChop

Ever wanted to share a small excerpt of a YouTube video or create mini excerpts to break up a long YouTube video? You can use an online tool called TubeChop.

TubeChop allows you to create mini excerpts of existing YouTube clips and share/embed with students or staff. For example, as shown in the above 30-second video demo, you might want to create a small excerpt out of Angela Lee Duckworth’s amazing TED talk — The key to success? Grit (actually, if you wanted watch this, you should!). Her TED talk is roughly 6 minutes long, but, you might only want to show an excerpt from 2mins 48secs to 3mins 27secs. All you need to do is follow these easy steps:

  1. Copy the YouTube link of the video
  2. Go to http://www.tubechop.com
  3. Paste the YouTube link into the window
  4. Click Chop It
  5. Set a start point and finish point for the YouTube clip
  6. Click on Chop It
  7. Copy the link to share or embed code to pop onto website, LMS course page etc.
  8. Repeat Steps 1–7 to make multiple excerpts from the same YouTube video if necessary!
