the massacre and robbery of the caravan was ordered by Inalchuq, the city governor claiming the traders were spies in disguise

quickly after, Genghis Khan was made aware of the situation and proceeded to send an envoy to the ruler of Khwarazm, Sultan Mohammad, demanding compensation and Inalchuq, the city governor, to be handed over.

However, Sultan Mohammad refused and did the unthinkable. He killed the envoy doing what was considered an act of war in Mongolian culture.

Genghis Khan declared war and attacked the borders of Khwarzam seeking revenge while it was to expand his empire as he had been for the past several decades.

Following the news, Sultan Mohammed fled as his empire faced its ultimate challenge.

Otrar fell as Genghis Khan killed thousands of innocent people in cold blood and turned what was once a glorious city into ashes.

as for Ilachuq, he was executed by molten silver being poured into his eyes and ears as Genghis Khan went on to complete his quest of conquering The Khwarazmian empire.
