Health Adherence: Do we really adhere?
With advent of technology and so many tools available, I was just thinking about how much I adhere to different health schedules as prescribed by doctor? When I checked my behavior, I found out, actually I do not adhere to schedules. Initially I thought its my problem because I am ignorant. I observed in close circle and almost everyone is facing same problem. It clicked my imagination and I extended this observation to a little larger group, what I found was alarming. None yes None were 100% adherent to health schedules.
Then I googled it and tried to see if it is cultural problem. What I found was shocking, its problem world over. From developed to developing nation, its problem all over. According to WHO, impact of just medicine non-adherence in USA is $300 billion every year that is GDP of many small nation combined.
So there is big problem with one of the most fundamental needs. Most developed nation is facing this problem, extrapolating it to developing nation like India, China, Brazil make me feel restless. And if try to measure impact of relapse rate due to non-adherence it makes this habitual problem even bigger. It impacts personal wealth (in countries like India, where there is no social healthcare scheme) and government funds. It makes situation of healthcare in country like India even worse as bed and doctor availability per 1000 citizen is only 0.7.
My question is: What are the reasons behind this habitual problem? Why this problem is not solved till now? What are things which can help solve this problem?
