Q&A: A software engineer with over 6 years of experience wants to start career as Enterprise Architect? Where should one start?

Enterprise Architects take a ‘big picture’ view of the enterprise and its BIDAT dimensions. Most Enterprise Architects come with a deep understanding and experience in one or more of the business or technical domains. Such experience and insights help them have a “seat at the table” while consulting with senior executives at their organization.

Given your background — 6+ years as a software engineer — you are better off gaining further experience in Information/Data/Application domains. Such experience will help you more than a course in “Enterprise Architecture”.

Assuming you don’t have travel constraints, joining a consulting firm and seeking out EA consulting opportunities would be one way to break-in

All the best!
