Guided Installation: Windows Server 2022 on VMware Workstation

Step 1: Create a New Virtual Machine

1. Open VMware Workstation and click on “File” -> “New Virtual Machine.”
2. Choose “Typical” and click “Next.”
3. Select “Installer disk image file (iso)” and browse to the location where you have the Windows Server 2022 ISO file. Click “Next.”
4. Enter the Windows Server 2022 product key and click “Next.”
5. Enter a name for your virtual machine, choose a location to store it, and click “Next.”
6. Specify the disk capacity for the virtual machine and choose either “Store virtual disk as a single file” or “Split virtual disk into multiple files.” Click “Next.”
7. Review your settings and click “Finish” to create the virtual machine.

Step 2: Customize Virtual Machine Settings

1. With the new virtual machine highlighted, click on “Edit virtual machine settings.”
2. Under the “Memory” tab, adjust the RAM size as needed. It is recommended to allocate at least 2 GB for Windows Server 2022.
3. Under the “Processors” tab, choose the number of processors and cores per processor. Adjust based on your system’s capabilities.
4. Click “OK” to save the changes.

Step 3: Install Windows Server 2022

1. Start the virtual machine by clicking “Power on this virtual machine.”
2. The virtual machine will boot from the Windows Server 2022 ISO. Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the installation.
3. Choose the language, time, and keyboard input and click “Next.”
4. Click “Install now.”
5. Select the edition you want to install and click “Next.”
6. Accept the license terms and click “Next.”
7. Choose the installation type. For a clean installation, select “Custom: Install Windows only.”
8. Select the drive where you want to install Windows and click “Next.”
9. Windows installation will begin. The system will restart several times during the process.
10. Set up your password and security questions when prompted.
11. Complete the setup process, including creating or signing in with a Microsoft account.
12. Once the installation is complete, you will be directed to the Windows Server desktop.

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Windows Server 2022 on VMware Workstation.
