Compost box beauties

When was the last time you took a good look at your compost pile? If your answer is “a long time ago”, it’s certainly time to do a recheck. Who knows what you might find, from crawling pillbugs to twisting earthworms. Or beautiful yellow slugs, like this one!

I guess most gardeners, organic and conventional alike, would shudder at the sight of a slug near their precious plants. Well, I don’t. They either don’t fancy my plants, or they prefer the abundant compost they have available — I wish I could say the same about their shelled cousins!
