I love this – especially the idea of everybody being the boss, instead of nobody being the boss. I’ve worked at “flat” organizations before, and found that a) in the absence of official hierarchy, unofficial hierarchy tends to dominate, and that means that smooth-talking white dudes run the place; b) nobody wants to do the un-fun, back-office parts of management, so it ends up being done by people who are not the aforementioned smooth-talking white dudes, or not being done at all. We need leadership where we’re ALL in charge, not leadership where nobody is in charge.
