That sounds a lot like the philosophy I use with my kiddos. I give them options, I respect them, I know they are curious, and I hate threats…only boundaries that I will follow through with. I also give them multiple opportunities to fix mistakes. Instead of time-out, sometimes I will remove them from the center they are playing at and have them try it again with a different one, with a chance to feel successful and capable. (As long as they know the desired behavior at the new center).
