Social Media Week One
Social media is a relatively new thing. For years its been growing, but just recently has it really taken off and grown into this huge empire. People are now getting jobs from social media, earning their livings, and creating a whole new life for themselves just because of a picture or post. Social media is only going up from here.
In this class about social media, we are learning about different ways to use certain sites, how to market ourselves the best on our own social media, and what jobs may be out there for us to seek in this field.
Something that really stuck out to me this week when going over chapters one and two is the idea of quality over quantity.
This is a phrase thats used in so many areas of life, and as a college student I know first hand the importance of turning in material thats better quality than quantity.
When we were learning about this topic, I was surprised to learn just how many influencers and people who are big on social media think that its better to post more quantity, and not necessarily good quality. To me, this is just going to kill your brand or company following.
As a college student, I am pretty picky about brands and companies I follow on social media, because I primarily just like to keep up with my friends, but when I do choose to follow a brand I like, I’m wanting to see good quality content. I hate when I follow a brand and all they do is spam my feed with new things, features, and other products that I do not care about, and in result I end up unfollowing the account and not keeping up with their brand anymore.
I know there are many out there who would agree with me, and its so important for these brands to know that teens, college students, and young adults are wanting to see good content full of quality photos and products that are great. When you spam your followers with random things, you are going to have a pretty fast unfollowing.
With this blog, I hope to take topics that we are learning about in class and talk about why I may agree or disagree with them, and the reasoning behind that.
There are so many people out there who feel like they are pros at social media, I’m sure I’ve thought that about myself at times, but there is always room to learn and grow, and see how we can make our online lives better.
