Give Risks the Respect They Deserve — and Take Them Anyway — Counterpoint
Take risks: If you win, you will be happy; if you lose, you will be wise — InspirationBoost.com
My son remarked about the above nicknamed dog he had growing up, Jed, who pulled him on his roller blades and in his wagon; and this is the less-risky, winter version on skis since you’re not really going to hurt much if you wipe out on snow (and you’re only 3' tall)! This was the beginning of molding this young man into the wise risk-taker he is today.
I do NOT consider myself a risk-taker, so I guess I am in the category of “playing it safe.” I don’t want to be, I don’t like it, but I am. So can you be TAUGHT about risk in school, or are you what you are, and the bigger question is whether you can be taught to take risks over 50?! Certainly answering my son’s first blog with my Counterpoint was a big, BIG risk for me (you have no idea the conversation that ran around in my head!). So it’s a start.
I happened upon Robin Sharma, a leadership consultant and author, who has inspiring youtube videos (click on his name, if you haven’t figured that out yet!). He has a beautiful bald head, brilliant smile and a joy and confidence that is amazing. There is a wealth of inspiration out there!
I do think you can be taught how to become comfortable with the UN-comfortable parts of taking risks, and that goes on my “one-page plan” as Robin Sharma suggests. “The world belongs to the learners,” so look out…I’m not done yet.
