The JPEG image is derived from the RAW, so if the JPEG is sharper then the camera has applied some filtering as well as compression. Do you know precisely what the camera does when it generates the JPEG? It just seems making a point that the “RAW needed a bit of sharpening” should be interpreted as “the camera sharpened the JPEG image”, invalidating a direct comparison.
