Getting out of the shower with a wet head of hair can be irritating — and your first thought may be to take a towel to it and go to town until it’s dry. But hair is extremely fragile when wet and roughly drying your hair with a towel can damage it, leading to breakage and frizzy hair.

Instead, blot your hair with the towel to remove excessive moisture while you’re waiting for your hair to air dry. Also, invest in a super-absorbent towel made with microfiber to wrap around your hair and dry on its own.

4. Watch Your Diet, — And Your Sleep

Like many aspects of your body, your diet can affect your hair. With hair comprised of protein, it’s important to consume the recommended daily. This will keep your hair strong and promote healthy growth. While you’re at it, stay away from sugar-filled soft drinks and too much candy as they can also have a negative impact on your journey to healthy hair. While your diet is important, so is your sleep schedule. Getting a good night sleep will not only rebuilds and recharges your muscles, bones and skin, but it helps refortify your hair.

5. Opt for A Trim or Layers

Getting your hair trimmed every 7–8 weeks is optimal for healthy hair, as it will help remove dead and split ends and keep your hair in top shape. Removing about an inch will eliminate split ends, but if you want to keep your hair long, ask your stylist about getting layers cut into your hair to remove the damaged parts but keep it at your desired length.
